Hong Seok Cheon is a South Korean actor, restaurateur, and politician representing the Democratic Labor Party, born in Cheongyang, Chungcheongnamdo. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Theater and Film from Hanyang University before pursuing careers as a male model and actor. In 2000, he came out as gay, an act that generated significant controversy in South Korea and led to his dismissal from a prime-time variety show. His courage was recognized internationally when Time Magazine named him an Asian Hero in 2004.
