Jimmy Wang Yu was a Hong Kong-Taiwanese martial artist, actor, film director, producer, and screenwriter born on March 28, 1943, and died on April 5, 2022. Beginning his career as a Shaw Brothers contract player, he achieved international stardom through his lead role in The One-Armed Swordsman (1967) and its sequels, becoming one of the pioneering figures in martial arts and wuxia cinema. During the 1970s at the peak of his career, he commanded the highest salary among martial arts actors worldwide. The New York Times recognized him as "the biggest star of Asian martial arts cinema until the emergence of Bruce Lee."
