Kim Young Ae was a South Korean actress who began her career after joining MBC's 3rd Open Recruitment in 1971, making her acting debut in the television police procedural "Chief Inspector" and her film debut in 1973's "Long Live the Island Frogs," establishing herself as particularly active in cinema during the 1970s and early 1980s. In 2006, she transitioned to business as vice-chairman of cosmetics company Chamtowon, which specializes in soap and mud pack products; however, the company faced severe financial hardship following a 2008 "Consumer Report" broadcast on KBS falsely claiming their mud products contained dangerous levels of heavy metals, resulting in near-bankruptcy, factory closures, and the layoff of 100 workers. Although the Korea Food and Drug Administration later confirmed the magnetic substance in the products was naturally occurring oxidized steel rather than a manufacturing defect, and the court ruled in Chamtowon's favor requiring KBS to issue a correction, the company could not recover financially from the damages, which contributed to her divorce. She died from pancreatic cancer on April 9, 2017, two weeks before turning 66.
