Jin Suzuki and Gaku Oshida have been cast as the leads of Can You Kiss Me First?, an upcoming Japanese BL drama adapted from Yamayade’s manga Omae no Hou kara Kiss Shite Kure yo.
The eight-episode office romance is scheduled to premiere in Japan in fall 2026. Each episode will run approximately 30 minutes.
Suzuki will play Isao Ueno, a cool and exacting member of the accounting department who is secretly more vulnerable than he appears. Oshida stars opposite him as Eito Kanda, the company’s bright and sociable sales ace.
At work, Ueno and Kanda appear to be complete opposites. Privately, however, they are close enough that Kanda regularly spends the night at Ueno’s home. Ueno has told Kanda that he is gay—but has also insisted that nothing could ever happen between them.
That declaration continues to bother Kanda, while Ueno struggles with feelings shaped by a painful past relationship. As their friendship becomes increasingly important to them both, neither man is willing to risk taking the first step.
The first teaser highlights the contrast between their workplace dynamic and private relationship. After Ueno reprimands Kanda over an incorrect expense report, the preview shifts to the two at home, where Kanda asks whether he could be a possible romantic partner and moves in for a kiss.
Suzuki previously starred as Ritsuka Uenoyama in the 2021 live-action adaptation of Given. Oshida has appeared in both seasons of Cosmetic Playlover as Tenma Sahashi and is also known for playing Geiz Myokoin in Kamen Rider Zi-O.
From manga to live action
Can You Kiss Me First? is based on Yamayade’s debut manga, which has surpassed 250,000 copies in circulation. The office BL placed first in the “Next Generation” category and second in the overall comics category at the BL Awards 2025. An English edition of the manga is scheduled to be released by Seven Seas Entertainment in September 2026.
Natsuki Takahashi directs the adaptation. Her previous BL work includes writing My Personal Weatherman and directing When It Rains, It Pours and Smoke Blue After the Rain. Emi Amamoto wrote the screenplay, with music by Nobuhiro Tateno and Ami Yamashita.
Where to watch Can You Kiss Me First?
Can You Kiss Me First? will air on Fuji TV in Japan’s Kanto region and stream through FOD. Episodes will also be available through TVer for one week following their television broadcast.
