Khalil Ramos and Ian Pangilinan will star together in Patay Gutom (Dead Hungry), a new Filipino fantasy BL film arriving in cinemas on September 23, 2026.
Pangilinan revealed the project’s official poster and cast on social media, describing Patay Gutom as a fantasy BL film. Ramos and Pangilinan will lead the cast alongside Agot Isidro and Cris Villanueva.
Mikoy Morales, Gio Gahol and Erlinda Villalobos will make special appearances in the film.
Patay Gutom is directed by Carl Joseph E. Papa and Pangilinan, marking Pangilinan’s feature directorial debut. The latest official poster credits Yvonne Garcia and Papa as the film’s writers.
Papa is best known for directing Iti Mapukpukaw (The Missing), an award-winning rotoscope-animated film that became the Philippines’ submission for the 96th Academy Awards.
The colorful Patay Gutom poster offers the first hint at the film’s fantasy elements. It uses a mixed-media design to show one character roller-skating toward a blue-tinted illustrated figure, with the two reaching for each other across what appears to be a grave.
The production credits also name Papa as animation director and Patrick Francisco as lead rotoscope animator, suggesting that the film may contain animated or rotoscoped sequences. The filmmakers have not yet explained how extensively those elements will appear in the finished movie.
When the project was first selected for Puregold CinePanalo, Pangilinan described it as an experimental story about different forms of love, including familial and gay love. He also characterized the film as a love letter to his parents.
Patay Gutom brings Pangilinan back to BL following his breakout role as Vlad Austria in the acclaimed 2020 Filipino series Gaya sa Pelikula. This time, he will also be stepping behind the camera.
The film is one of seven full-length entries selected for the 2026 Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival. The festival will run from September 23 through October 4 at Gateway Cineplex 18 and participating Ayala Malls Cinemas.
A complete synopsis, official trailer and individual screening schedule have not yet been released.
