LOOKE has addressed concerns over FOU4MOD sharing the “Sugar” fandom name used by Ngern Anupart and Oat Tharathon, explaining that the name was created earlier as part of the fictional storyline in GELBOYS 2.

The discussion began on August 23, when LOOKE shared an in-universe announcement from PHOTO DUMP, the fictional agency representing FOU4MOD in the series.

The announcement officially introduced “Sugar,” written in Thai as ชูก้า, as the fandom name for FOU4MOD. It described Sugar as the sweetness added to every part of his journey, from his first steps as an artist to the happier and more challenging moments ahead.

FOU4MOD is the fictional idol played by New Chayapak in the second season of the iQIYI Original series.

The name drew concern because Ngern and Oat had already publicly introduced “Sugar” as their fandom name during their first fansign on June 27. The actors reportedly selected it because they both enjoy sweet foods.

NgernOat Global, a fan-run account, released a statement asking LOOKE and the production team to consider changing FOU4MOD’s fandom name.

The fan base acknowledged that FOU4MOD is fictional but argued that using the same name within the wider BL community could create confusion. Other supporters left similar requests beneath LOOKE’s announcement, emphasizing the significance “Sugar” already holds for NgernOat fans.

LOOKE explains when the name was created

Following the fan response, LOOKE released an official clarification regarding the use of “Sugar” in GELBOYS 2.

The company said “Sugar” was created as a fictional fandom name forming part of FOU4MOD’s storyline and character arc.

According to LOOKE, the relevant story content was developed and its script completed in February 2026, before filming took place between March and June.

The cast’s script read-through was publicly documented as completed on February 19, supporting the production timeline provided in the clarification.

That means the name was already part of the series’ material approximately four months before NgernOat publicly introduced their own “Sugar” fandom on June 27.

LOOKE said its use of the name was not connected to—and was not intended to reference—any existing fandom, artist or individual. The company also denied attempting to create a specific association with another fan community.

The matching names therefore appear to have resulted from independent creative decisions rather than one side copying the other.

“Sugar” will remain inside the series

LOOKE also clarified that “Sugar” will only be used within the content and storyline of GELBOYS 2.

The company has no plans to develop it into a real-world fandom identity or use the name for fan activities, events or communications outside the context of the series.

LOOKE concluded by expressing hope that the information would make its creative intentions clearer and apologized if the use of the name had caused misunderstanding or discomfort.

The company has not announced that the fictional name will be changed. Instead, it has drawn a boundary between FOU4MOD’s “Sugar,” which exists only within the narrative of GELBOYS 2, and the real-world NgernOat fandom.

The situation ultimately reflects two different timelines. GELBOYS 2 created the name first as part of its fictional story, while NgernOat introduced “Sugar” publicly before LOOKE revealed its use for FOU4MOD.
